Heart’s Rest Retreat Centre is located in the heart of the Kootenay mountains of British Columbia.  Perched on six acres above the village of New Denver, vistas open west and north to the mountains and glaciers of Valhalla Provincial Park, the deep waters of Slocan Lake, and rushing Carpenter Creek.

The Main House and Hermitage were built by local craftspeople, using wood from the Central Kootenays and stone from the site.  In addition to the Hermitage and Main House, the acreage encompasses a secluded eleven-circuit labyrinth, two meditation gardens, and a large vegetable garden.

At Heart’s Rest, we are committed to loving and respecting the physical world.  We attempt to lighten our load on the earth by using geothermal heat, growing many of our own vegetables, participating in cooperative chicken raising and community fruit picking, and buying local organic produce, and local, ethically raised meat whenever possible.  We invite guests who stay for longer than a weekend to connect with the physical world by offering one hour daily of “Thanks to the Earth” time, whether that be picking vegetables, trimming flowers, weeding the labyrinth, or assisting in food preparation.

Heart’s Rest has a lending library, including resources on theology, spirituality, church renewal, healing prayer, meditation, recovery from addiction, economics, and neuroscience.  Hi-speed Internet access is available in all rooms.

The village of New Denver is a short walk down the hill, and the village of Silverton is about 5 kilometres south: these communities contain several small coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. Lakeside walks, creek trails, and mountain paths wind through the area, providing many places to enjoy the natural beauty and deep restfulness of this region.

New Denver, British Columbia, is approximately 1.25 hours northeast of Castlegar, B.C. which is serviced by Air Canada Jazz, and 4.5 hours north of Spokane, Washington, which is serviced by major U.S. airlines.  Rental cars are available at both sites.
